Introductory Classes (Ages 5-7)

FIREWORKS

Our Fireworks classes are for students aged 5-7.  Each week we head off on an exciting, imaginative adventure.  Through a range of fun activities and creative exercises students will:

  • learn drama, social speaking and performance skills

  • build confidence

  • foster teamwork

  • develop imagination and creativity

Shine classes are taught in groups so students can develop teamwork skills and take part in a wider range of performance experiences.  However group sizes are kept very small to ensure that each student gets lots of individual attention.  Each student is monitored closely so that teaching can be targeted to support them in areas that require improvement and stretch them in areas in which they excel.

At this level we have a maximum of 6 students per class.

DRAMA SKILLS

Classes include a range of Drama skills such as music & movement, expression, characterisation, puppets, mime, putting on plays, poetry speaking, improvisation and role play.

SOCIAL SPEAKING SKILLS

During our adventures we undertake a range of fun activities designed to develop social speaking skills.  These include basic courtesy communications (meeting people, introducing ourselves), telephone skills, purchasing things, ordering in restaurants, giving talks and language development activities.

PERFORMANCE SKILLS

We also look at skills which are a useful foundation for any presentation or performance.  These include breathing, voice projection and control, stance, stage manners, relaxation and audience awareness.

TEAMWORK

During our lessons we have a strong focus on working as a team and consciously building the skills we need to do that.  We look at audience manners, how to be good listeners, considering others' points of view, working together to solve problems as well as working with others in performance pieces and group activities.

IMAGINATION & CREATIVITY

Our adventure based program ensures that children are using their imaginations throughout every class.  We also engage in many creative problem solving activities designed to help students develop their ability to think outside the box, generate ideas and solve problems in new and creative ways.

CONFIDENCE

As a teacher I strive to meet each child where they are at and gently encourage them to stretch themselves, while ensuring they feel safe and happy.  Shine classes help students become more confident speakers, communicators and performers.  Parents have commented time and time again about how the work we do in class has helped children become more confident in their everyday lives.
